Timbre "The Rhythm" Pinot Noir - Riverbench Vineyard 2021
Timbre "The Rhythm" Pinot Noir - Riverbench Vineyard 2021
"Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir
Terroir: Alluvial soils formed of sediment deposited by pre-historic rivers, which contain particles of clay, silt, sand and gravel. One of the original trailblazing vineyards in this benchmark California winegrowing region.
Oak Regimen: Aged for ten months in one third new, and two thirds neutral French Oak barrels.
Vintage Notes: In spite of drought conditions and successive vintages of hot weather, the 2021 harvest was characterized by cool months and even temperatures, without the heat spikes experienced in other regions. Ample rainfall during the previous winter allowed vines to be healthy and vigorous from the get go. Picked in late September and destemmed upon arrival at the winery, the fruit was measured as having perfect balance. The even levels o fsugar and acidity meant that nothing was added, or taken away from this wine. This led to a non-interventional, perfect fermentation.
Winemaker Tasting Notes: Dark red, the nose smells of raspberry coulis, baking spices, and sous bois (underbrush). A touch of Santa Maria Funk (indeed, a real thing) on the nose and palate adds charming complexity. On the palate, the wine has the classic and pretty Pinot Noir elements of red berry, cranberry, and licorice. The wine has a velvety texture that tempers the acidity into an extended finish accented by cloves and pipe tobacco. Drink Now-2027+
CELLAR Notes: This wine is very enjoyable upon opening, but don’t be deceived. It takes more time for the wine to breathe and unlock layers of complexity beneath. This is a young Pinot Noir that will develop comfortably for years to come. Truly a benchmark year for Santa Barbara, with the potential to age for the medium to long term. Avoid vigorous decanting with this wine, and with Pinot Noir in general.
