Shirah Teroldego 2021
Shirah Teroldego 2021
Shirah’s first Teroldego. Teroldego originates from Trentino in north-eastern Italy. DNA profiling has revealed that it is closely related to Lagrein, is a grandchild of Pinot and is either an aunt or uncle to Syrah. It shares the same general elongated shaped cluster as Syrah but the berries are a bit more spherical and the skins much thicker. Teroldego wines tend to be very darkly colored and quite tannic but probably to a lesser degree than Lagrein. Our Teroldego is grown at Nolan Ranch in Alisos Canyon, an AVA that is celebrated for its Rhone varieties. A moderate climate and rolling hills of weak, loamy soil, interspersed with limestone producing low yields of pretty late ripening fruit. Rhone specialists Thompson Vineyard and the famed Sine Qua Non’s Third Twin vineyard are both located in Alisos Canyon and our Thompson fruit is usually from the last to ripen from all our different sources. This Teroldego is consistent with the variety, being deeply colored and reminiscent of Syrah.
