The 2023 Sycamore Ranch Syrah is a striking expression of Ballard Canyon, showcasing the region’s signature dark fruit and spiced complexity. This wine opens with an exotic nose of dark blue fruit—rich, ripe, and inky, complemented by an incense-like spiciness that is uniquely Syrah. The use of the 470 clone shines through with its characteristic deep, dark blue fruit flavors, layered with a subtle roastiness from the oak that adds a toasty depth.
On the palate, the wine is beautifully balanced—full-bodied yet not overpowering. It maintains a restrained richness, avoiding the overly jammy or sweet notes typical of some Syrahs, instead offering a plush texture and a deep, layered profile. The tannins are firm but well-integrated, providing structure without being too intense. The result is a Syrah that’s both powerful and poised, with a rich, dark core and a balanced elegance that makes it incredibly enjoyable. A standout among our Syrahs, this wine will pair beautifully with meat, particularly lamb chops, pan seared steak, and any hearty, flavorful dish.
