Lahat Adom Red Blend
Lahat Adom Red Blend
Vineyard and Terroir: The Elkosh Vineyard is close to Moshav Elkosh and descends towards the Nahal Matat in the Upper Western Galilee, at an elevation of nearly 2400 feet above sea level. The Elkosh vineyard has lower levels of potassium in the soil, which help facilitate acidity in the wine, leading to a product that is suitable for aging. It all starts in the vineyard!
Vintage and Winemaking Notes: The 2021 vintage in Israel has been considered to be a successful one. It was off to a bumpy start with a heat wave early on, but this yielded to a relatively mild growing season leading to high quality fruit of exceptional quality. The grapes for this wine are harvested by hand at night. The wine is fermented in wide fermentation tanks and undergoes a gentle pump over the cap (cluster of grape skin that floats above the wine). Towards the end of fermentation, the wine is separated from the skins and transferred to very large 300 Liter French oak barrels. For this vintage, 10% of the production was fermented and aged in amphora vessels, which were then blended with the oak barrel lots for added complexity. This is a unique and cutting edge winemaking style that is the hallmark of Lahat Wines.
CELLAR Tasting Notes: 88% Syrah, 12% Cabernet. This wine is a full bodied and extremely elegant blend. With great length and balance, the fruit combines bright raspberry and cherry flavors with the mild smoky and mineral notes to continuously pull you in for another sip. With a lovely acidic backbone and more than a touch of Syrah spice, this wine is drinking well now and will continue to evolve into 2027 and beyond. While it had a bit of time to age under ideal conditions already, be sure to sufficiently aerate it so those luscious tannins come out to play.
