The exciting 2012 vintage of Domaine Roses Camille has arrived, and was well worth the wait. While the vintage was not celebrated in Bordeaux as a whole, the commune of Pomerol had great success with the harvest (as evidenced by the 2012 Echo Roses Camille - a "younger vines" version of this estate blend). The Domaine version is from the 85 year old estate vineyards in the heart of Pomerol's blue clay vein that originates a half mile up the slope in Chateau Petrus, meandering down into the Estate vineyard of Roses Camille. This vineyard, shared by Pomerol superstars such as La Violette and Le Gay, is also home to the unique red-stemmed Merlot clusters, which are indigenous to Pomerol. These precious berries are only able to yield 2000 bottles worth of wine in a single vintage. The aroma in this wine is deep and brooding, with the typical red fruit, earth, coffee, and cigar aromas that are the hallmarks of young Roses Camille vintages. With air, you will perceive the floral elements that elevate Pomerol beyond similar wine regions. On the palate, the youthful tannins are the dominant element, tempered by the acidity and tongue pleasing fruit. The long, contemplative finish will invite you back for sip after sip. We don't recommend decanting every wine, but we would decant this for an hour or two before service. Drink now through 2030 and beyond.
