Château Bellefont-Belcier, this winemaking project of more than three centuries old is composed of two names. On the one hand, Bellefont (beautiful spring) is inspired by the large number of natuaral springs around the estate and, on the other hand, Belcier is the surname of the founder of the vineyard, Count Louis François de Belcier. Located on the southern slopes of Saint-Emilion, this is a majestic winery whose renovated château is inspired by the style of Gustave Eiffel, and its wines are a delight.
The fruit of a magnificent 13.5 hectare vineyard whose terroir is composed of clay-chalk and limestone soils, Château Bellefont-Belcier is a red wine made from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc that is cultivated in a way that respects the balance of the environment. The grapes are harvested by hand and immediately transferred to the winery. There, they ferment with native yeasts in concrete tanks, without the addition of sulfur. The wine is then aged 30% in new barrels, 20% in oval casks, 25% in barrels used for one wine and the remaining 25% in barrels used for two wines.
Deep, elegant and meaty, Château Bellefont-Belcier is a red wine that is part of the prestigious Saint-Émilion Grand Cru AOC. A great Bordeaux name whose aging capacity promises a wonderful future
Created at the end of the 18th century, Château Bellefont-Belcier is ideally located on the south coast of Saint-Emilion, bordering Château Pavie, Château Larcis-Ducasse and Château Tertre Roteboeuf.
The Domaine Bellefont-Belcier originally belonged to a powerful Bordeaux family: at the end of the 18th century, Count Louis-François de Belcier had first founded the vineyard and then, at the beginning of the 19th century, built the Château which he named Bellefont (short for "Belle Fontaine", in reference to the many springs near the Château from the clay-limestone hillside).
The Château Bellefont -Belcier is located in the commune of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes in the Saint-Emilion appellation area Grand Cru. The vineyard extends over 13.5 hectares of vines in a single block. It is divided into three distinct areas: the limestone plateau, the southern clay-limestone slope, the sandy-clay foot of the slope.
On these different types of soil, we find the three great red grape varieties of Bordeaux in the following proportion: 72% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon spread over 28 parcels.
